7th Grade Language Arts

There are only a few days left of summer, so that means I am hard at work preparing for this school year.  First thing on my list to do is to update my syllabus.  I am currently in the process of doing so and would like your help.  You can find my syllabus at http://www.quia.com/files/quia/users/ckain/syllabus-webpage.htm
Thanks for your help. :)

  1. I like how you have addressed all the different aspects of your class. However, maybe you could go into more detail with your rules and behavior expectations. For example,

Bring all needed materials to class everyday. These will ALWAYS include the following: red folder, red notebook, agenda, textbook, and a pencil or pen (black or blue ink only). Each core subject has been assigned a color to help students stay organized. Language Arts was assigned the color red, which is why students are asked to have a red folder and red notebook that they will use exclusively for history class. Only passes written in a student’s agenda will be granted, and if a student is not prepared for class then he or she will receive a tardy or a strike. Work that is completed in ink that is not blue or black (example= pink, red, neon green, etc.) will be given an incomplete grade until the student turns it in using regular pencil or blue or black ink.
Be in your seat, silent, and ready to work when the bell rings to start class. Every class will begin with some sort of warm-up activity. Students are expected to begin working on the activity as soon as they enter the classroom, and they have approximately 3-5 minutes to complete it.

Be respectful of yourself and others.
My classroom is a putdown free zone, and bullying or harassment will not be tolerated! Students are expected to be courteous and quiet while others, including the teacher, are talking. Students are also expected to keep their hands to themselves and off of other people and other peoples’ property.

Get the idea? It will just give your students a better understanding of what you are expecting in your classroom. Good luck this year!!!
